The Switzerland of the Americas

A product of the silver bonanza of the 1890's, Kaslo is set on a delta of the Kaslo River, between the Selkirk and Purcell Mountains. On February 25, 1894 both a fire and hurricane stuck the town all but destroying it. Fortunately the community was re-built and the tree-lined streets and vintage buildings thrill visitors.

Elevation: 546 m. (1,791 ft.)

Access: Follow Highway 31 north of Balfour or Highway 31A south of New Denver.

Recreation Facilities & Activities: golfing, boating, fishing, camping, hiking, hot springs, swimming

Local Attractions: SS Moyie tours, Langham Cultural Centre, Ainsworth Hot Springs, Woodbury Mining Museum

Accommodations: There is a provincial park/campground north of town. Also a number of commercial campground/RV parks, some with cottages are located in area surrounding Kaslo. In town there is a choice of bed & breakfast, motel, cabins & campgrounds.
